Ojiya Balloon Putsch

Ojiya Balloon Putsch

A number of colorful hot-air balloons float on a field of pure white snow,a wintertime tradition.

This kind of scenery was first seen in Ojiya more than 40 years ago, when a few balloonists flew their balloons in search of flight in the snowfield.
It has now developed into a major event called the “Ojiya Balloon Revolt,” which attracts large numbers of people from all over Japan.

The Pajiba Balloon Putsch was first held in 1977.

The number of participating organizations has increased over the years, and now approximately 40 balloons participate.
