The sight of the sunflowers blooming in the vast fields, bathed in the summer sun, is truly a “sea of sunflowers” and a moving sight, a “summer tradition” of Tsunan.
In order to provide a long-lasting viewing period, the field (4 ha) is divided into three sections and the blooming period is staggered.
progress
Tsunan Town’s sunflower fields began in 1990 when a group of young farmers (vegetable research group) planted sunflowers on idle farmland (50 hectares) for their own enjoyment.
Later, in 1991, several ornamental varieties were planted in rows on 3 hectares with the cooperation of the town government and the agricultural cooperative. The response was great and many spectators came to see the show.
In 1992, only 1.5 hectares of sunflowers were planted due to field conditions, and since 1993, the town’s tourism association has been hosting the event.
Currently, approximately 500,000 sunflowers are planted in an area of about 4 hectares.
